Our Calgary massage and wellness clinic offers a variety of massage services to relieve your pain, discomfort and stress. We offer full trigger point therapy and release massages designed to identify your muscular pain points and release the tension within your muscles. Trigger point therapy and release massage can be one of the most beneficial massage therapy treatments for chronic pain.

What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger point therapy is an effective massage technique for lower back pain and many other chronic pain conditions. It works by releasing trigger points, which are small knots of tight muscles that cause pain. These trigger points are often found along the spine, between the shoulder blades, and at the base of the neck.

Trigger point therapy is a form of manual therapy that uses deep pressure to release muscle tension and reduce pain. The therapist applies gentle pressure to the painful area until the trigger point releases. These knots cause inflammation and can lead to chronic pain. Trigger point therapy involves applying sustained pressure to the trigger point until it releases. Once the trigger point has been released, the patient should be able to move the affected area without experiencing pain. This technique helps to break up the scar tissue that forms around the knot, which reduces the amount of pain felt by the patient.

How Does Trigger Point Therapy Work?

Trigger points are knots of tightness in muscles that cause pain and discomfort. These knots form when the muscle fibers become too tense and constrict blood vessels, causing inflammation and swelling. Trigger point therapy involves applying pressure to the knot until it releases. Trigger point therapy works because it focuses on the muscles themselves rather than the nerves that control them.

The goal is to release the tension that causes the muscle to contract and pull on the surrounding tissue. In other words, trigger point therapy treats the source of the problem, rather than simply masking symptoms. This helps reduce muscle spasms and stiffness, allowing the body to heal itself naturally.

What Conditions Can Trigger Point Therapy Help With?

There are many conditions that routine massage can help to alleviate the symptoms. Some of the common conditions associated with trigger point therapy technique massages include:

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Lower back pain, including sciatica

  • Heel and foot pain

  • Shoulder and neck pains

  • Myofascial pain and fibromyalgia
