Some of the services at Why Knot include:
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is one of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques. It is a treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Therapists use a combination of kneading, long strokes and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles. The benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and, to promote health and wellness.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is massage therapy that works on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport. People who are involved in physical activity require sports massage but you don't have to be a professional athlete to have one. It’s also used by people who are active and work out often. The focus isn't on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. A combination of techniques is used. The strokes are generally faster than Swedish massage. Facilitated stretching is a common technique. It helps to loosen muscles and increase flexibility.
Myofacial Mobilization and Release
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended for pain relief, increasing range of motion and balancing the body. Techniques include manual massage for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, muscles, and bones are applied. Therapists manipulate the fascia by applying gentle pressure to allow the connective tissue fibers to reorganize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion. Myofascial release is an effective therapeutic approach in the relief of cervical pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, neurological dysfunction, restriction of motion, chronic pain, and headaches.
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation massage focuses on making you feel good by decreasing your stress level, and soothing your nervous system. This work is what most people think of when they hear the word massage. Relaxation massage is more pampering than treatment massage. Typically, relaxation massage focuses on the whole body, and not specific body parts or muscles.
Treatment Massage
Treatment massage is therapy focused on helping you make significant progress toward better health, less pain, and increased range of motion. Therapists use treatment massage to reduce and eliminate pain, and recover from injury. Sometimes treatment work is uncomfortable during the massage itself but afterwards you start to feel the benefits.
Trigger Point Therapy and Release
Trigger point therapy is a deep specific massage that applies concentrated finger pressure to painful irritated areas in muscles to get rid of persistent and irritating muscle knots that cause pain and spasms to travel to various areas of your body. Getting rid of trigger points in the neck, for example, can relieve chronic headaches.
Pregnancy Massage
The therapeutic benefits of massage for pregnant women haven't been studied very much. There's some evidence that massage may help people who suffer from low back pain and possibly those with chronic headaches, but the studies weren't done with pregnant women. In any case, massage may decrease stress and promote relaxation, helping you cope with discomfort even if it doesn't prevent it. Carrying a baby inside you changes your center of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and you've got yourself an aching lower back. A trained prenatal massage therapist knows where a pregnant woman's sore spots are likely to be and may be able to provide some relief. But don't forget to communicate with her and tell her where you need attention.
